Recorder tuition

A wonderful instrument when learnt to play properly that can be enjoyed on many levels.

Young children start their musical journey having fun with Karate Recorder, plus gaining a high standard of music literacy. They then can follow in the footsteps of Alyssa, opposite, who took her playing to diploma level.

I have a tried and tested method that has reaped a stream of excellent recorder players. Children can start off their musical journey with me using a highly motivational karate recorder scheme where I divide the progression to an Associated Board Grade 1 exam into nine manageable levels/karate belts, starting with white and ending up with black belt. The children love attaching these motivating little belts to their recorders. The purpose of this stage is to become fluent readers of conventional music notation, generating the freedom to be able to express music. Thereafter children continue their journey into learning how to perform expressively and interpreting music in conjunction with music exams if they so wish.

I have had a huge amount of success with this method and a number of our students have progressed to grade 8 and beyond and have achieved well in music competitions.

Polly Robinson achieved a distinction for Grade 3 recorder, Age 7.
